Welcome to my ACL Reconstruction Diary/Blog

I decided to start this blog/diary when I injured my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) during a game of football/Soccer between my team ‘Rutherglen AFC’ and Prestwick WFC’. I was playing as a defender (right back) and made a bad angle with my knee as I went in for a challenge. I felt a pop and my knee buckled and I knew I had done damage. Almost instantly my knee swelled up and then within minutes of the swelling I felt the pain.

But I’m jumping ahead a bit here…

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sunita Carroll. I am 16 years-old (Seventeen on 25th March 2017).

I live in a town – East Kilbride, on the Outskirts of Glasgow and my injury happened during the above game on 15th June 2015. I play football in Scotland and was in the South West Under 17 woman’s League, although officially – I was an under 15.

I have had two operations on my knee, as the first operation didn’t work, so at the moment I am 4 months into a 12 month recovery period after the 2nd operation.
{I will go into more detail about the two operations I have had in subsequent pages}

My motivation in writing this blog is to document the trials and tribulations of trying to get back to full fitness and playing football again. Some people (including my knee specialist) have advised me ‘against’ going back into the game but prior to my injury football and fitness were my life and I am determined to give it a bash. I have a great physiotherapist and knee specialist provided to me by the Scottish NHS.

I intend to keep a diary/blog of my progress and recovery through my physiotherapy and muscle building. I will highlight any accessories that I use, as well as any home gym equipment that I use, as well as nutritional supplements that I hope in the long run will aid a full and successful recovery. I hope my blog inspires other ACL combatants to forge ahead and pursue their dreams of playing in their sport of choice again…

Good luck for now… Sunita
